Ethnomedicines includes indigenous beliefs, concepts, knowledge and practices among the ethnic groups, folk people and rural people for preventing, minimizing or curing various diseases. For this purpose, human groups around the world utilized the biological and cultural resources in their own way to develop resistance to combat different diseases, illness and health hazards arising from different pathogens and agents. The ethnic people and tribal races throughout the world have developed their own cultures, customs, cults, rituals, taboos, totems, myths, song, edible and medicinal practices. Wild and cultivated plants play a very crucial and vital role in their cultures through generations long experiences and experiments. The accomplishment and achievements of forest dwelling ethnic groups in understanding plants and properties of their roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruits, seeds and underground parts is chiefly due to long and unconditional relationship with the vegetation and their survival on them. Although, their traditional knowledge is based on repeated experimentation through trial and error methods but still needed careful considerations. It provides an opportunity to modern civilization to take an advantage of their vast knowledge of natural resources for scientific reviews and acceptance. In many ethnic communities, health status, disease causes, and treatment practices are chiefly based upon herbal resources. These unwritten medical practices collectively constitute ‘Ethnomedicine’. This unwritten indigenous knowledge of ethnic people has been passed by the words of mouth from generation to generation. Historical records show that scientific advancements accounted for substantial changes in our life-style and wellbeing. The Industrial Revolution took place in the western countries in the 1700s when people first appreciated the terms ‘science’ and ‘technology’ and valued the applications of ‘technological innovations’ for their commercialization. During the World Wars, people experienced use of science and technology for destructive purposes. The 20th century science revolutionized the living standard of mankind and offered solutions to great socio-economic or strategic challenges of the time. Policies are being placed to create a course of action, followed by enactment (of a law), and then rules & regulations that are designed to carry out that law successfully. Once Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is diagnosed, risk profile of the patient will impact its management whether there was a previous thrombotic event or not, association with other autoimmune disorders, presence of other obstetrical complications as well as being currently pregnant. The current recommended regimen for preventing obstetrical complications. The current recommended regimen for preventing obstetrical complications includes low molecular weight Heparin and low dose aspirin. This regimen decreases the risk of miscarriage by only 54%. Some of iron bismuth borate oxide glasses were prepared to form a series of glass samples contain a constant and a fixed amount of Fe2O3 whereas the B2O3 was replaced by Bi2O3, according to the formula 20 mol % Fe2O3–(15 + x) mol % Bi2O3–(65–x) mol % B2O3, where 0 ≤ x ≤ 20. The X-ray diffraction and FTIR Spectra showed formation of homogenous short-range order structures. The values of the refractive index were estimated using both FTIR date room temperature dialectic measurements are in a good agreement with each other. It is clear that the ε increased with the increasing of Bi2O3 content.

A group of U.S. diplomats stationed in China have been brought back to the states after being inflicted by a mystery illness that reportedly resembles the brain injuries previously suffered by staff in Cuba. Heather Nauert, a State Department spokeswoman, said in a statement that the individuals from the U.S. office in Guangzhou were returned home for further evaluation. Molecular modeling attempts to study the function, structure and inhibition of the acetylcholinesterase enzyme due to the fact that the inhibition of this enzyme is importance to medical conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, myasthenia gravis and Parkinson’s disease, and it is also important in eminent toxicological susceptibility to nerve agents. In this study we present an approach for forecasting the inhibitory activity of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitors by using docking studies. The docking studies were done on acetylcholinesterase to attain the conformation of the enzyme in water surroundings. The obtained conformation of the enzyme was used for docking with four inhibitors (physostigmine, neostigmine, pyridostigmine and rivastigmine). Docking analysis showed that hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic interactions play important tasks in the acetylcholinesterase -inhibitor complex. Subsequently, all inhibitors that bind at the catalytic site of acetylcholinesterase and their interactions with acetylcholinesterase were studied. In addition, conformation stability of acetylcholinesterase -inhibitors was studied using simulation docking technique. The complex showed that acetylcholinesterase conformation did not change significantly in the presence of the four inhibitors. This paper showed important studies on acetylcholinesterase and assists to illuminate the four inhibitors interdependencies using molecular modeling.

Chagas disease is a protozoan infection which was first identified more than one hundred years ago. But even now, drugs to treat the latent and chronic phases of the disease are not available. The success of a drug design is highly dependent on activity and toxicity. In the case of Chagas disease, questions remain as to identifying the best treatment (mainly for the chronic phase), and how new drugs and drug combinations compare to current therapy. The principal priority of this mini-review is to report the enormous difficulty that pharmaceutical chemists encounter in the development of new drugs for neglected tropical infectious diseases, in this case Chagas disease.

Cytotoxicity and Antioxidant Potentials of Barringtonia Asiatica Essential Oil by Isaac John Umaru in DDIPIJ in Lupine Publishers

Essential oils are liquid mixture of volatile compound obtained from aromatic plants. It was observed that many essential oils have antioxidant properties and can present antimicrobial activities. The Aim of the present study were:
a) to determine the cytotoxicity lethality of the leafs and stem-bark of Barringtonia asiatica using brine shrimp (Artimia salina).

b) to evaluate the antioxidant potential of composition of the leaf and stem-bark essential oil using the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1- picrylhydrazyl) free radical scavenging assay. The essential oil exhibited a mild toxicity and significant IC50 of 36.55μg/mL and 22.10μg/mL value of antioxidant potential leaf and stem-bark of Barringtonia asiatica respectively.

Alcohol use disorders (AUD) involving hazardous, harmful and addictive misuse of alcohol are widespread in most parts of the world. The aim of this study was to review the effect of the common inhibitors in the treatment of patients with AUD, taking into consideration, the short- and long- terms abstinence. An extensive literature search conducted in MEDLINE, PubMed, Scopus and CINAHL databases identified 776 articles, which were then evaluated for pre‐specified criteria for relevance and quality assurance. A total of 38 articles, including 36 human studies and 2 animal studies, were selected for this review. Many inhibitors used in the treatment of alcoholism and some were considered of effective medication when their intakes are supervised by an expert. However, their therapeutic efficacies vary widely; for instance, disulfiram is a pro-drug that requires its transformation into an active form and because it shows a wide range of secondary effects, it often prevents the use of doses that ensure full therapeutic effectiveness. Sex hormones play an important role in establishing sex‐distinctive brain structural and functional variations that could contribute to the sex differences in alcohol consumption behavior. Existing evidence supports the association of increased testosterone level and increased risk for alcohol use and AUD in males. In contrast, the evidence supports the association of increased estrogen level and increased alcohol use in females. Much less is known about the impact of progestins on alcohol use and misuse in human subjects. Future observational and experimental studies conducted in both sexes with a comprehensive hormone panel are needed to elucidate the impact of the interplay between various sex hormone levels during various developmental stages on alcohol userelated phenotypes and AUD. On the other hand, alcohol withdrawal-especially delirium tremens (DT)-is a potentially life-threatening condition. While short-term treatment regimens and factors that predispose to more severe symptomatology have been extensively studied, little attention has been paid to the clinical epidemiology and long-term care of the chronic medical, addictive, psychiatric, and psychosocial problems faced by these patients. Chronic alcoholic patients are frequently suffering from specific micronutrient deficiencies, including vitamins involved in one carbon metabolism. The deficiencies commonly involve folate, vitamin B6, thiamine, and vitamin A. Inadequate dietary intake is a major cause of the vitamin deficiency. As a consequence of chronic alcohol intake, could lead to metabolic disruption and potentially to hyperhomocysteinemia. Alcoholism can affect the absorption, storage, metabolism, and activation of many of these vitamins.

Globally, mental health disorders are increasingly prevalent worldwide with depression particularly contributed to the largest percentage of global disability (7.5% of all years lived with disability in 2015). It is more common in females than males affecting 4 -7% of women in reproductive age group [1]. Women with mild depression are treated with cognitive based therapy and antidepressants are used depending on the severity of the symptoms [2]. Utilizing antidepressants preconception and during pregnancy was assessed in wide range of studies to evaluate the risk of associated congenital anomalies. Ornoy et al reviewed the association between tricyclic antidepressants (TCA) and congenital anomalies. Early studies showed slight increase in the associated risk however the following large studies showed no association [2].

Semiconductor Quantum Dots as In-Vivo Imaging Agent:(DDIPIJ)- Lupine Publishers



Inability to early diagnosis is a major concern for the treatment of fatal disease like cancer. Early diagnosis and treatment enhances the scope of disease curability. The accurate identification, realtime monitoring and targeting the cancerous tissues in a precise manner hold the key for longer progression free survival of a patient. Among different diagnostic techniques, fluorescence based minimally invasive bio-imaging techniques are considered to be ideal to have clear understanding about the physiological processes of the infected tissues as well as to reduce physical and mental stress of a patient. Super-resolution fluorescence microscopy has improved the spatial optical resolution of biological molecules, living cells and tissues with the use of highly fluorescent inorganic semiconductor nanocrystals, also known as quantum dots (QDs), with sizes ranging from 2 nm to 15 nm [1]. These nanocrystals comprised of elements belong to groups II–VI (eg, CdSe and CdTe), groups III–V (eg, InP), groups IV–VI (eg, PbS and PbSe) [2].

Antioxidant Properties and Antibacterial Activities of Leptadenia hastata Leaves Extracts on Staphylococcus aureus: (DDIPIJ)- Lupine Publishers



Leptadenia hastata extracts were evaluated for antibacterial activity and antioxidant properties. The leaf of the plant was extracted with n-hexane, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, chloroform and methanol to give respective extracts. The Antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, was determined by disc diffusion method. Antioxidant activity was assayed by the DPPH radical scavenging activity mechanism. The results showed that of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, dichloromethane, chloroform and methanol extracts of Leptadenia hastata, methanol extract and chloroform extracts displayed more activity with 1.10 ± 0.10ab and 0.97 ± 0.06ab than others at 25-1000ppm/desk of the extracts tested. The most antioxidant activities against DPPH were displayed by the hexane and methanol extracts of Leptadenia hastata leaf, exhibiting IC50 (63.44μg/mL) and IC50 (46.80μg/mL) respectively, followed by chloroform, dichloromethane and lastly ethyl acetate crude extract. The present results showed potential of the medicinal plant used by traditional herbal medical practitioners as natural anti-microbial, antioxidant and potentially antiinflammatory agents. The results confirm that Leptadenia hastata leaves extracts can be used as a source of drugs to fight infections caused by susceptible bacteria.

In the US, more than 400,000 medical treatments are carried out each year to eliminate intestinal adhesion. The economic loss from these medical treatments is estimated to be about $1.2 billion. This economic loss has been significant, and the search results from pub med under keyword Intestinal Obstruction have been decreasing since 2015. It is difficult to research and prevent a disease caused by small intestine, which is one of the emergency diseases. Because emergency diseases have structural problems that are very difficult to collect and analyze data for research. Emergency care measures, especially drug development, require a platform that allows public funding and sharing of clinical data. Emergency diseases have scattered clinical data. The research into this emergency disease requires a method of receiving clinical data as a condition to provide free medical treatment to patients through the IRB. There is an urgent need to find the reverse data. Modern society is a time of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Above all, AI, Deep Learning, and platforms are important keywords. In these times, open and international cooperation is necessary for the safety of emergency patients such as intestinal obstruction. Development guidelines describe how medicine will overcome these shortcomings during the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
